Obese man wins Miss Greater Derry 'beauty' pageant in New Hampshire

Is this a 'Girl Power!' or a 'Yay Patriarchy' moment?

There is a spectrum for men who present as women in how they look and are perceived. They range from very hard to tell to not even trying and just declaring. The person that spends thousands of dollars to do everything to feminize themselves on one side, to the I am doing nothing to feminize and am going to keep my moustache, but I say that I am a woman - so that makes me a woman, on the other.

The winner of the Miss Greater Derry pageant - named Brian Nguyen, appears to fall nearer to the middle of the spectrum. He has done the work to present what he thinks a woman looks and acts like, but has not really achieved a genuine female look. You can still see plenty of masculinity in that chubby face. Also, he still goes by Brian, a name not usually associated with women.

Nevertheless, Brian is the new ‘Queen’ of the Miss Greater Derry beauty pageant. And what a beauty he is!

The Miss Greater Derry pageant is a part of the Miss America Organization. So, theoretically this person could run to be Miss America.

Let’s start by pointing out the obvious; Brian does not even objectively look like a beauty. I see an obese man playing dress-up, not a beauty queen. There were some genuinely beautiful young women on the stage with him that had to pretend they were happy when the winner was announced. Beautiful young women that have to smile through clenched teeth as their genuine beauty took a backseat to the ‘beauty’ of a carnival sideshow. Brian winning was a political statement that had nothing to do with what a beauty pageant is supposed to judge on. For the record, I am not a fan of these pageants generally as I find them to be vapid and a negative reflection of femininity on the whole. But I digress.

Brian is a 19 year-old college freshmen who has now netted the Miss Greater Derry Scholarship award for his efforts. Another young woman was cheated out an accolade/award, by a man. Where are the feminists?

Is this a moment of ‘Girl Power!’ or ‘Yay patriarchy!’?

This appears to be a victory for the patriarchy. A man can declare himself a women, enter female spaces, take an achievement away from a woman; all while the feminists who fight for women’s ‘rights’ (well abortion, it is all about abortion) cheer them on while doing so. The feminists don’t adhere to this orthodoxy are smeared as TERFS.

Make that make sense.
